I have been planning to write a set of lyrics called VHS Showers, which is NOT about what you'd assume. However, I need a good, bombastic & overwrought melody, and my soon-to-be musical collaborator, my older sister, cannot write that type of melody. So, I'd like to know the copyright status of these two melodies:
"April Showers" (music by Louis Silvers, lyrics by B. G. De Sylva)
"Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody" (Music by Jean Schwartz, lyrics by Sam M. Lewis and Joe Young)

Thanks in advance. As I plan to issue my recordings in the USA, UK, and of course Australia (which is where I live), I need to find a melody I can "borrow" without issues in either of the three countries.

Good choice of tunes. Sound like an interesting idea.

Both songs are US publications published and registered before 1923: "April Showers" (1921), "Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody" (1918). Their full copyright term has expired so they are public domain in the USA.

The songs are also PD in Australia and UK because there is "rule of the shorter term" in Australia (Part 5 Copyright (International Protection) Regulations) and UK (Article 7 of the EU copyright directive).

When the song is done post it on IA or your you tube account. Love to see or dear it.
